๐Ÿ September Kitchen

Not Quite Summer. Not Quite Autumn.

๐ŸŒฟ A Journey Through the Seasonal Kitchens

๐Ÿ A Taste of September

September is the kitchen between seasons.

Not quite summer.

Not quite autumn.

The last tomatoes still ripen in the warmth.

Peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, and fresh herbs linger at the market,

while apples, pears, leafy greens, and squash quietly begin to arrive.

The kitchen changes with them.

Cooling chutneys and yogurt dishes still belong on warm afternoons.

But as evenings soften, dal returns to the stove, rasam begins to sound comforting again,

and the first gently warming meals find their way back to the table.

September asks us to do neither too much nor too soon.

There is no need to hurry summer out simply because autumn has knocked on the door.

Use what is still abundant.
Welcome what is beginning to arrive.

And let the kitchen make room for both. ๐ŸŒพ

โค๏ธ Welcome to September

September arrives with one foot still in summer and the other beginning to find autumn.

The days may still be warm, the garden still generous, and the market baskets

still carrying the colors of summer.

But inside our homes, something begins to shift.

The light softens.

The evenings arrive a little earlier.

The kitchen begins preparing not only mealsโ€”but memories.

And in the Indian home, September often carries another rhythm too.

Festival days begin appearing on the calendar.

Lamps are lit.

Flowers come home from the market.

Prasadam is prepared.

Familiar recipes return to the stove, carrying stories

much older than the hands cooking them.

Some days may call for something cooling and simple.

Others may bring a festive meal, a comforting bowl of rasam, something sweet made with jaggery,

or a recipe prepared because someone before us prepared it too.

That is the beauty of September.

It doesn't ask us to leave one season behind before entering another.

It lets us stand for a little while in the doorway.

Whether you're here for seasonal inspiration, everyday South Indian cooking, festival recipes,

or simply the pleasure of gathering around good food...

Welcome.

Come inside.

There is room for both seasons at the table. ๐ŸŒพโค๏ธ

๐ŸŒผ Kitchen Wisdom

September asks very little of the kitchen.

Use the tomatoes while they are still sweet.

Bring home the first apples and pears.

Keep the cucumber for the warm afternoon.

Let dal simmer when the evening turns cool.

There is no need to rush one season away
simply because another has begun to arrive.

Perhaps the kitchen has always understood
what we sometimes forget:

we do not have to choose between what is leaving
and what is beginning.

For a little while, we can make room for both.

Cook what the day asks for.

Use what you have.

Welcome what arrives.

And let the season change gently around you.

For the Curious Home Cook

Spices are more than heat or color โ€” theyโ€™re the quiet backbone of everyday Indian cooking.

Used with care, they bring warmth, balance, and depth to even the simplest meals.

If youโ€™ve ever wondered why certain spices are paired together, or how masalas shape flavor without overwhelming it,

Iโ€™ve gathered those foundations into a gentle, practical guide.
