To Clean & Cook Mussels
1 lb Fresh Mussels
3 cups Water
Ice (for storage)
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Oil or Butter
Buy Fresh – Choose mussels sold in mesh bags on ice. Discard any that are open or have cracked shells.
Store Right – Keep in a colander covered with damp towel and ice in the fridge; cook within 24 hours.
Clean – Scrub shells and remove the “beard” (fibers) using fingers or a small knife.
Cook – In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add mussels, cover, and cook 5–7 minutes until shells open.
Serve – Use immediately in curries, pastas, or coastal stews.
